The Monkey Bread was tasty.  Next time from scratch though.  That will be better.  And a couple of modifications.  Why is it that all recipes call for not nearly enough cinnamon?  I mean, a half a teaspoon?  Puhlease!

I want to be Robin McKinley.  I want to be able to sculpt words the way she does.  I want to make my characters a real, as round, as delicious as hers.  I want my worlds to have the same rich, deep textures.  I want to have such good, compelling stories.  I want to be Robin McKinley when I grow up to be a writer.

And now to go wrestle with words.

Haven't posted on your blog lately, so this is a bit of a catch-all comment. It's freezing here too - I was downtown about an hour ago (11:00 p.m. or so), and it said 15 degrees. That's too damn cold this early in the year. I'm trying to will more heat of my pathetic little propane heater. I'm going to buy yet another electric heater for my laundry room to keep the pipes from freezing. If the floors are this cold already, god knows how bad it's gonna be come December or January.

Second, the Monkey Bread sounded good. I'm baking a cake for the first time in years tomorrow morning. I'm thinking about a double chocolate, maybe with some caramel swirls if I really feel like going crazy. I love to bake, but I don't do it often. That's probably for the best, seeing as how I'm supposedly trying to lose weight. I've also been thinking about trying some variations on Rice Krispy treats, involving caramels or a light cake frosting. We shall see.

And as for word-smithing, I would dearly love to be able to write as wittily and gritty as John Sandford. Also, I greatly admire Mitch Albom's simplistic style and beautiful writing.

1. You do write amazingly well and maybe you don't sound like Robin McKinley (I haven't taken the time to compare) but your worlds and characters are extremely well done. I love your writing!

2. Mom came back with the freezing the dough thing. She wasn't sure for freezing it right after making it. Trial and error, and all that... but she did mention that the yeast could be killed if it raised too long prior to freezing. Also, she said if it's something like a pizza crust, cook it most of the way (sans toppings) then freeze, then when you pull it out, top it off and finish the job!

3. What is monkey bread? Could you send me the recipe or post it? I love to cook and I'm totally curious now...
