Today I'm working on my desktop and I start getting flashed with a whole bunch of IE windows. (I use Firefox).  Then PC Cillin tells me I've got Trojans (8 of them).  I disconnect from the next and I scan my system.  Then I scan with ad aware and spy bot.  Everything came off but this:  smitfraud-c.CoreService  Which apparently is a hijacker.  No idea what it actually does to my computer.  Except be annoying.  So I've been gathering some options to see what will help.  The main thing is for me is to find a way to clean it off in a way that doesn't allow me to screw things up further.  I have no idea how it came to me.

So if you have advice on prevention or removal, do let me know.

ETA:  OMFG  This is funny.  From Smart Bitches, looking at some rather amazing book covers.  Amazing.  Really.  Go look.  Go read their commentary.  Don't be drinking anything.  I warned you.

Yikes! eight?!

Here's a helpful link. I like MajorGeeks, but they get VERY technical. Grab a geek in person whom you trust and send them here, unless your comfortable enough to follow their steps:

(Btw, HijackThis is a free program for helping to identify where these kinds of threats hide on your machine. It creates a logfile to analyze, nothing more. But it shows you all the places a nasty bug can hide to reinfect your machine even when you think it's out. I've used it in the past.)

I don't have a computer degree, but I maintained the computer system in a small office a few years ago.

I am still laughing at those covers. *snigger*
I love the hokey pokey and chest wig comments. They just crack me up. Thanks, I needed that.
