Probably, indeed, the larger part of the labor of an author composing his work is critical labor; the labor of sifting, combining, constructing, expunging, correcting, testing. This frightful toil is as much critical as creative. ~T.S. Eliot
The real secret of magic is that the world is made of words, and that if you know the words that the world is made of you can make of it whatever you wish. ~Terence McKenna
Tell the readers a story! Because without a story, you are merely using words to prove you can string them together in logical sentences. ~Anne McCaffrey
The beautiful part of writing is that you don't have to get it right the first time, unlike, say, a brain surgeon. ~Robert Cormier
If you don't feel that you are possibly on the edge of humiliating yourself, of losing control of the whole thing, then probably what you are doing isn't very vital. If you don't feel like you are writing somewhat over your head, why do it? If you don't have some doubt of your authority to tell this story, then you are not trying to tell enough. ~ John Irving
Sometimes making stuff up feels a lot like Coyote* running across the empty space between one rocky pinnacle and the next, and as long as you keep moving you're fine. When you stop and look down, it's suddenly all too apparent that there's absolutely nothing underneath and that you're keeping in the air by a peculiar effort of will.
And then a good day comes, and you start running through the air once again, and, if you're smart, you resolutely don't look down. ~Neil Gaiman
I am a woot addict. There should be a support group for us. LOL.
There's a woot off that's been going on since midnight before last. And I've bought 3 woots in the last week alone, and I keep watching the woot off for more cool stuff I probably don't need. :-D
Let's try this again. If it's a double post, my apologies - I either hit send right before or after we had a short power outtage.
That shirt is face-meltingly awesome. And if face-meltingly isn't a word, it should be. Already sold out, though. Sigh. Next time, next time. I'm slowly building up a collection of ridiculous and silly shirts. I've got a 50's style bowling shirt (my brother had "The Holy Deuces" written on the front and "There's nothing like a good deuce!" on the back), a tuxedo t-shirt (thank you, Talledega Nights), and a shirt that reads Grampa. I'm particularly fond of the Grampa shirt. I don't know why, but I damn near go into hysterics putting it on. I'm thinking about getting a World's Greatest Mom t-shirt to go with it, especially with my beard.
Regarding your last post, I hope my inquiries into markets and writing advice aren't annoying, and if they are and that post was directed towards me and my ilk, I really do apologize with all sincerity. I do try to do research on markets, but there's just so much out there, I figured asking a few pros couldn't hurt along the way. So let me know in an email or something if I was the one to offend you, and I'll try to make amends as best I can.
Nah, it ain't anybody on this list. You're good. I'm delighted to help you and all here. I just hate cluelessness after specific advice to go research and where. Sigh.
