yet another snowy day

Of course, it snowed. it is snowing. It will snow. Whining whining whining.

Nuff said there.

I miss Farscape. I miss Blood Ties. I hate it when they cancel good shows I like.

I made some progress today on the book today. I got through a scene that was hard. Descriptions of the doing of magic are very difficult. I have avoided really talking magic in Crosspointe until now because I wanted the culture to be founded on more than magic. For Lucy, magic works differently than for the ordinary majicar. in this book we dig into the nitty gritty of what happens when spawn are transformed and how majicars manipulate magic. But I wanted a magic system that made sense and yet was a bit different and yet was specific and concrete. i think I pegged it, though I think there may be rather more exposition than I like. I'll clean it up later in revision if so.

I watched The Prestige last night. I liked it. I liked the bitter obsession and the lengths to which they'd go. I felt sorry for the wives. The daughter was loved and so did not sense anything wrong. I don't want to get into spoilers, but it was enjoyable and holy crap! I never would have recognized David Bowie.

Hunh, I guess now isn't a good time to mention today was kinda chilly around here. Even put on a sweatshirt before I went out.

Right. Low of about 78F. But it was chilly, compared to yesterday's high of 85F!

Yeah, maybe I shouldn't mention that.

It was around 10 degrees this a.m. when I walked the kids to school.

Sigh. I'm so tired of winter. Everything is still white here.

I've DVR'd both The Prestige and The Illusionist. Both were wonderful. I also DVR'd Stranger than Fiction, but I haven't watched it yet. Any movie about neurotic writers is one I want to see. LOL.

Apparently, the cold spot in the nation for yesterday was good ol' WSS. Joy oh joy. We had about a half foot of snow. I guess Great Falls had well over a foot. Yikes.

Liked The Prestige too, and I didn't know David Bowie was in it. Going to have to catch it agai. I really dug the heck out of the costumes and the set-pieces. Some of those villages and towns looked absolutely stunning. And without going into spoilers, that ending... wow.

Okay, best part about The Prestige? For me, it was because they structured the movie like a magic trick. I love external structure. Did you notice that when Michael Caine narrates the parts of a magic trick at the very beginning, they're telling you what they do with the movie? They show the bowler hats at the very beginning . . . ahh, I love that movie. ;)
