I have decided
6th-Apr-2007 04:21 pm
I have decided not to be annoyed with a certain incredibly annoying person any more.  I refuse to be sucked into the vortex and waste any of more of my life there.  I have decided that I will go do an office supply run tomorrow and buy pretty pens, and and I will eat good Mexican food.  I have decided that I shall write.  I will enjoy the people around me who are enjoyable, and not get annoyed with those who aren't.  I will get another tattoo.  Soon.  I will keep exercising.   I will enjoy the sun and the green and the kids hunting eggs on Sunday.

So, let's talk about something actually interesting, shall we?  One of my students today told me that a pair of shoes slung on a powerline were a message that a drugdealer was close-by.  I do not know if this is true.  However, it is fodder.

I have also received my tentative schedule for Miscon and they are running me ragged.  And yet, somehow, it feels like they've embraced me.  I am delighted.  I'll post it when it's less tentative, but so far I get to be on panels with Patty Briggs, Cindy Ward, Jane Fancher and Gaaaaa!  C.J. Cherryh, among others.

My husband made me a roll-top oak breadbox in his class.  It's lovely.  I mean, wow.  I wonder if I can get him to make me a roll-top desk?

I am also noticing a few new names on the f-list.  Care to say hello and introduce yourselves?

I've also heard the thing about the shoes slung over the powerline. I think it may be true. But I don't know. And if it is true, than there are certainly a lot of drug deals going on in Lorain Ohio, but that's just common knowledge.

Oh, here's what snopes has to say about it: http://www.snopes.com/crime/gangs/sneakers.htm

Aren't all those possibilities lovely? Think of how they could be worked into stories . . . In northern Idaho there is a Shoe Tree in an old growth Cedar forest. apparently some rail workers or miners (I'm forgetting who now) were camping as part of a job and when they left, they nailed their boots as high up as possible with railroad spikes. Later people came and did the same. I've been there. Pretty weird really, all these shoes attached to the tree.

Yes. There's something very, I dunno, stunning about shoes in places where they shouldn't be. I was driving down the highway the other day and saw some cast off cowboy boots on the berm and I really, really would love to know the story behind that.

Erm... At my large state school, all it means is that you're in a student neighborhood. :-) That was even true at my expensive private undergraduate school.

i'm going to blindly assume that means me. hi, i've been a lurker here for a little while, and i liked your lj. and also i really really loved your books, (can't wait for the new one) so i thought that that was an added bonus. i'm an aspiring writer and avid reader, to name a few things, and i'm having lots of fun doing both. that's basically it for the introduction. (go and check out my lj if you'd like!) um, i hope it's ok that i friended you.

Hello and Welcome! What do you write? Did you do the novel in 90? Ah, pepper of questions. f I'm that way. Lovely to have you here! And thanks so much for the kinds words on the books. *blush* Rather gives a happier ending to a rather not so great week.

Best,

FWIW, I think that you made absolutely the right decision about Annoying Person - I'm sorry that I didn't get a chance to weigh in earlier... (Pesky day job!)

Day jobs *mutter* Yeah, me deciding to be a grown up. Who knew? How's the job going? Learning curve flattening yet? Are they still treating you with all the worship you deserve?

Hello, I'm another person who recently friended you. I was in Borders last month and picked up your books on a recommendation from online friends. When I saw that there was a goshawk in them, I had to have them. I've recently started birdwatching again after a long absence and I'm obsessed with raptors. I've also recently gotten back to reading fantasy as well.

How funny, I was just wondering about the sneakers over the powerline thing the other day when I was out for my daily walk and rediscovered a pair of black Reeboks swinging gently in the breeze.

Hi! A goshawk lover! Yay! A friend of mine is a goshawk researcher, so he's taken me out to see them in the wild. Fun fun fun. Where do you birdwatch and what kinds of birds? Which reminds me, the Western Tanengers (spelling completely off on that one) should be coming through our area soon. Georgeous birdies.

Great to meet you!

Sorry it has taken so long to respond. Spring is a bad time for me because I get terrible sinus headaches (but I've found some promising home remedies, so I'm finally feeling a bit better).

That is so cool!

I'm in Upstate NY, along the Hudson River. We have peregrine falcons nesting in a nearby bridge, bald eagles in the next town over (and I saw a juvenile on my to go grocery shopping recently), tons of red-tailed hawks everywhere, and we have either a sharp-shinned hawk or a Cooper's hawk ambushing the birds at the birdfeeder in the backyard. I saw the sharp-shinned or Cooper's hawk a few years ago, along with what I assume was its mate, flying out of the tree next door, then I think I saw another one a few days ago while I was out walking. I also love to watch the backyard birds, especially the crows when they try to figure out how to eat pears from the pear tree.

I just saw on your web site that you might be at the World Fantasy Con, if so I will have to say hi. I'm really excited that my local con is hosting WFC this year. :D

Hi! I'm also one of the (relatively) new names on your f-list. I'm Kim, a professional picture framer and a visual artist. I also started writing fan fiction when I ran into a slight artistic block a few years ago.

I've really enjoyed your books (and the sneak peeks for upcoming stories that you've had here- thank you!) and have been learning quite a bit about the craft of writing through your entries and links in your LJ. I've also enjoyed the link to the Sharpetorium and found "What Breasts Can Do" hysterical. :)

Nice to meet you!
